Showtime tomorrow! I have one more night of work after tonight, I’ll take a nap, then it’s time to get ready. This show is important, a lot of people and other singers will be there. There should be a lineup getting emailed out today. I’m singing Jolene, as the fundraiser is Dolly Parton themed. I scrapped When I Dream at Night. I’ve been practicing NON-STOP. Every break at work, any free time in mornings and evenings. Half the battle is memorization. Jolene has a lot of lyrics packed into three minutes. But now I am confident on them and I’m starting to get excited. The 2nd number after intermission will be Sing for Absolution, by Muse. It’s hopeful and defiant, and this is a fundraiser for those horrendous fires that tore through the north part of town a month ago.
I started in the Spectrum Singers choir last week. We had our 2nd rehearsal tonight. It is INTENSE. Seems like everyone can sightread better than me. But I’m learning. There will be some solos. The songs and overall theme for this season will be Immigrant and Refugee stories. One of them is Somewhere, from West Side Story. I have a thick binder full of music.
My days at Sacred Heart are numbered, I can feel it. Now I’m just eking it out as long as I can. Raking in the money, putting it away. Till that inevitable day. Might be because of drag/singing obligations as well, getting in the way of work. I will have called out twice this past month for shows. Calling out again Saturday for the fundraiser. Never the VA, always Sacred Heart. I work weekends at SH. The Spectrum Singers have their shows coming up too, including a big one in December.
